Our Origin
THE LION OF AFRICA INSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED was incorporated in Nigeria on the 21st of November, 1952 to underwrite all classes of insurance businesses. At inception, THE GUARDIAN ROYAL EXCHANGE GROUP (GRE) of London and THE SEA INSURANCE COMPANY of Liverpool owned the business in collaboration with the Ojukwu Transport Company of Nigeria. Today, owing to indigenization policies and other business dynamics, the share holding consists of a number of reputable institutional investors, Nigerian entrepreneurs and the workforce.

From the beginning, we set out with a vision to offer true and transparent insurance services based on the practice and principles of keeping our word as our bond. Thus, over the years we have always delivered on our promise with professional competence and consistency. This explains why we have not only won but also kept the confidence of our teeming population of stakeholders, namely: insureds, brokers, agents, consultants, shareholders, employees, reinsurers, and the community.

The fact that we have come a long way in offering satisfactory and standard services has not made us complacent. We have continued to improve on our services, manpower, processes, organizational structure, infrastructure and management. Underwriting Philosophy: In accepting business, we recognize with a great sense of responsibility that we have been entrusted with the protection of treasures that are central to our client's business and/or source of livelihood. We therefore take utmost care to ensure that while offering competitive rates, we retain the financial capacity to meet our obligations when claims are made.

Claims Philosophy: In recognition of the fact that claims constitute the "acid test" of our strength and integrity, all genuine claims are usually settled with fairness and speed.

In effect, clients are restored to the same position that they were before the occurrence of the insured event within the shortest possible time. We thereby "guarantee our insured persons' wealth."

Service Standard: We are committed to offering personalized services from risks assessment through document preparation to claims settlement. Thus, we have been able to establish and sustain a culture of delightful customer service.
